Medicaid waiver services
A-Life is an approved Nebraska Medicaid waiver provider. In plain terms: if the hours are approved, we bill the state and you are not invoiced for anything — and if the person doing the caring is a relative, we can put them on our payroll to do it.

What a caregiver actually does
Not a category — the specific things that happen while somebody is in the house.
- Checking what is already authorised, free, before you commit to anything
- Helping with the waiver application when there is not one yet
- Dealing with the case worker and the service authorisations
- Billing Medicaid directly — no co-pay, no invoice to the family
- Hiring and paying a family member as the caregiver where the waiver allows
- Timesheets, payroll and the compliance side, so you never touch it
Is it time?
What is usually happening when families call about this
If two or three of these sound like your house, it is worth a phone call. It costs nothing to ask.
They have Medicaid and nobody has ever mentioned help at home
You were told there is a waiting list and left at that
A relative is providing full-time care unpaid
The paperwork was started once and abandoned halfway
How medicaid waiver services gets paid for
Three different situations, three different answers. One of these is yours.
What we can and cannot promise
A-Life Home Health Care is an approved Nebraska Medicaid provider. We are not Nebraska DHHS and we do not decide who qualifies. Medicaid eligibility, eligibility for a home and community based services waiver, the level of care assessment, the number of hours authorised, and who may be paid as a caregiver are all determined by the State of Nebraska.
- We will help you apply and tell you honestly what we think is likely — but we cannot guarantee that you or your relative will be approved.
- We cannot guarantee any particular number of hours, or that a specific person will be approved as a paid caregiver.
- Under current Nebraska rules a spouse cannot be paid as the provider, and neither can a parent or guardian of a child under 19.
- Waiver places are limited and a waiting list is possible. Programme rules, funding and rates can change.
- Nothing on this site is legal, tax or benefits advice. For the official position, contact Nebraska DHHS on 1-800-430-3244 or visit dhhs.ne.gov.

We are a non-medical home care company
That means our caregivers help with daily life — washing, dressing, meals, mobility, housekeeping, company and getting to appointments. It is skilled, trained, background-checked help, and for most families it is exactly what is needed.
If any of that is what you need, say so and we will tell you straight — often the answer is a home health agency or hospice for the clinical side, with us doing the daily hours around it. We work alongside both, and we would rather point you to the right place than take a booking we cannot do properly.
What we do not do
- No nursing care, injections or IVs
- We remind and prompt about medication; we never administer it
- No wound care, catheters or clinical procedures
- No physical, occupational or speech therapy
- No diagnosing, and nothing that needs a nurse or a doctor
Questions families ask
- What is a waiver, in plain English?
- It is the part of Medicaid that pays for help at home instead of paying for a nursing home. It is not automatic — somebody has to ask for it — which is why so many families who qualify have never had it.
- We were told there is a waiting list.
- Sometimes there genuinely is, and we will tell you if that is the case. But it is at least as often the wrong programme or an application that stalled, and those are fixable. Let us look at what was actually applied for.
Families who needed this usually needed one of these too

Care for specific conditions
Parkinson’s, stroke recovery, diabetes, post-surgical care and end-of-life support at home.

Personal care assistance
Bathing, dressing, toileting and grooming, done in a way that keeps their dignity intact.

Dementia & Alzheimer’s care
Caregivers who understand repetition, sundowning and refusal, and do not take any of it personally.
