About us

Locally owned, and we treat your family like ours.

A-Life is an Omaha home care company, run from an office on North 115th Street. Call and someone from the office will help you. We are also a medical transport company, which is unusual and turns out to matter — the ride to dialysis and the person who helps you get ready for it are arranged by the same office.

The company exists because families kept being handed the same two options: manage alone, or move them into a facility. There is a large amount of ground between those two, and almost all of it is care in the house they already live in.

We are an approved Nebraska Medicaid waiver provider, which means for a lot of families the hours cost nothing — and it means we can hire and pay a relative to do the caring where the waiver allows it. That last one is the part nobody tells people about, and it is the reason a good number of our caregivers are looking after their own mother or grandfather.

Every caregiver is trained, background-checked, insured and bonded. We also run the certification ourselves, free, including First Aid and CPR — partly because it is the right standard and partly because it is how we find people who are good with people rather than people with a certificate.

What we promise

Respect

Their schedule, their house, their rules. We work around the life they already have rather than replacing it with ours.

Honesty

You will know what is happening, what it costs and where an application has got to, without having to ask twice.

Kindness

Trained, background-checked, insured and bonded — and chosen because of how they are with people, not only what they can do.

We are a non-medical home care company

That means our caregivers help with daily life — washing, dressing, meals, mobility, housekeeping, company and getting to appointments. It is skilled, trained, background-checked help, and for most families it is exactly what is needed.

If any of that is what you need, say so and we will tell you straight — often the answer is a home health agency or hospice for the clinical side, with us doing the daily hours around it. We work alongside both, and we would rather point you to the right place than take a booking we cannot do properly.

What we do not do

  • No nursing care, injections or IVs
  • We remind and prompt about medication; we never administer it
  • No wound care, catheters or clinical procedures
  • No physical, occupational or speech therapy
  • No diagnosing, and nothing that needs a nurse or a doctor
Care is not only the washing and the meals. Most of a good day is the rest of it.

Come and meet us. The first visit costs nothing.

We come to the house, meet them, and write a plan. Nothing is signed on the day.
