Companionship
Families often feel silly asking for this one, as though company is a luxury next to bathing and medication. It is not. An older person living alone and speaking to nobody declines faster — physically, not just in mood — and company is the cheapest intervention there is.

What a caregiver actually does
Not a category — the specific things that happen while somebody is in the house.
- Conversation, and someone who actually listens to the same stories
- Cards, dominoes, crosswords, jigsaws
- Reading aloud — the paper, letters, a book
- A walk, or just sitting outside when the weather allows
- Help with the phone, a video call to grandchildren
- Going along to church, the shops, the coffee morning
Is it time?
What is usually happening when families call about this
If two or three of these sound like your house, it is worth a phone call. It costs nothing to ask.
They have stopped going out since a partner died or a licence was handed back
The television is on from morning to night
Phone calls have got shorter and flatter
They perk up visibly whenever anybody visits
How companionship gets paid for
Three different situations, three different answers. One of these is yours.

We are a non-medical home care company
That means our caregivers help with daily life — washing, dressing, meals, mobility, housekeeping, company and getting to appointments. It is skilled, trained, background-checked help, and for most families it is exactly what is needed.
If any of that is what you need, say so and we will tell you straight — often the answer is a home health agency or hospice for the clinical side, with us doing the daily hours around it. We work alongside both, and we would rather point you to the right place than take a booking we cannot do properly.
What we do not do
- No nursing care, injections or IVs
- We remind and prompt about medication; we never administer it
- No wound care, catheters or clinical procedures
- No physical, occupational or speech therapy
- No diagnosing, and nothing that needs a nurse or a doctor
Questions families ask
- Is it not expensive to pay somebody to sit and talk?
- It is our lowest level of care and often only a few hours a week. It is also the visit that catches everything else early — the fall risk, the food going off, the medication not taken — because somebody is in the house looking.
- Can it be the same person each time?
- That is the whole point of it, so yes. Company from a different stranger every week is not company.
Families who needed this usually needed one of these too

Respite care
We take over for a few hours or a few days so the person doing the caring can sleep, work or leave the house.

Meal preparation & nutrition
Shopping, cooking to a diet, and making sure they are actually eating and drinking.

Medication reminders
Keeping to the schedule. We remind and prompt; we do not administer.
